Those of you who read my old blog might remember this post about Trophy, the tank defense system that guards against rocket propelled grenades.
To recap, there was some consternation among the Third Deck (the term used to describe the Army senior leadership because of their location on the third floor) about a news piece aired on NBC news by national security correspondent Lisa Myers. The story basically criticized the Army for not purchasing this tank defense system, even though the Army’s top brass had very legitimate reasons for not getting it.
I warned them that someone at General Dynamics, the company that manufactures Trophy, was working behind the scenes to keep the story alive in the blogosphere by seeding video and stories about Trophy on popular tech blogs and news servers, such as Digg.
The Trophy story had died down, but I predicted that it would be back.
So what hit the news this week? Trophy is back.
It is times like this that I don’t like being right. Another case study on why the Army needs to learn more about social media.
