I can’t think of a better way to start the new year perhaps than a tip to one of the most interesting and inspirational milblogs I have come across.
This is Lance Cpl. Ryan Bleill. He was seriously wounded by an improvised explosive device (or IED) in Iraq in October.
Immediately after his family heard about his injury and evacuation from Baghdad to Germany, they set up a blog, mostly to keep family and friends notified of Bleill’s status. The first dispatches posted to the blog came from Bleill’s sister, Julie, but the rest of the family got in the game and began to contribute as well.
I found myself combing through the entries over the past few months with rapt attention, following his roller coaster journey with his family.
If ever there was a reason that the Department of Defense should embrace a comprehensive program to get servicemembers and their families to blog, this one would be it.
To Lance Cpl. Bleill and his family, Oo-rah! You are inspiration to us all. Keep up the blog and best wishes from the D-Ring.
